What is this place? |
About 55 to 60% of visitors coming to this site each day are new. Many of you don't know the first thing about the game Unreal Tournament, much less about UnrealEd. This page should help orient newcomers, and help everyone figure out what they can learn from this site.
What is Unreal Tournament?
Unreal Tournament is a first-person shooting game made by Epic Games. It was also among the first 3D games to be released with its game engine. This means that developers who buy the game Unreal Tournament get a complimentary copy of the engine that powers hundreds of games. This is an incredible deal, considering that a $50 game comes with an engine that game companies have to pay $500,000 to license.
Unreal Tournament is just one game in a series of Unreal games, and each of them come with their own engine. Unreal Tournament 3 is the latest, and is accompanied by the Unreal Engine 3, a market-leading and award-winning tool.
What is this site?
This site is dedicated to using the Unreal Engine to create 3D virtual worlds (called "maps" or "levels"). It provides two major indexes of tutorials: one for Unreal Engine 2, and one for Unreal Engine 3. These tutorials should help any beginner with the Unreal Engine become an Unreal editing pro.
If you're just visiting and aren't interested in creating 3D graphic art, check out some screenshots of art I've created. Another great place to browse images of 3D art is the CBP3 website; CBP3 (the third Community Bonus Pack) is a collaboration among the very best Unreal Engine designers in the world to create the highest-quality "maps" available. Okay, so I'm a little biased--I'm the co-leader and technical manager of the team, and I built the website. :D
